What Can One Person Do?

30 Days of Climate Action and Inspiration

Day 5 - The Problem

Picture
What if global warming is happening FOR us instead of TO us?
In nature, big problems create big opportunities.
Existing systems transform dramatically during these times of disruption and difficulty, where the old structures are forced to fall apart.

Only a massive problem can do this for us. The scale and scope of the problem dictates the magnitude of our response--and there is good evidence to suggest that a massive shift is already underway... one that we won't see advertised on TV.

Day 5 Action:

1. Watch Paul Hawken answer the question "Is Global Warming happening to us or for us?"
here:

Day 5 Action, continued:

2. After you watch the above video, find a seed of opportunity within something you currently see as a problem.

Stumped? here are some examples:

OPPORTUNITY
Humans crave connection and may respond to an invitation

PROBLEM

OPPORTUNITY
People are demanding a better future

To seeing with new eyes,

“Is global warming happening to us or for us?
If it’s happening to you, you’re the victim and disempowered.
Or you can think about it happening for us.

Global warming is feedback. It’s actually a gift.

Addressing global warming is a pathway to transformation, creating a far better civilization than the one we live in now. Far kinder, more compassionate, more inventive, cleaner, restorative. Once you think of it as for you, you can take 100 percent responsibility. It’s totally liberating to be the person who is going to address and solve something. The point is that it invites creativity, imagination, celebration. It invites you to be an extraordinary human being. It’s also about knowing that you can’t do it alone.”

“… invites creativity, imagination, and celebration” So global warming can actually be a gift. I want to spend time today outside in the orchard remembering and honoring that truth. I need encouragement. This may help.
